Description

April 4, 2018, marks the 50th anniversary of the night that the legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) and Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) became forever entwined in Indianapolis - RFK's historic speech about the assassination of MLK, promoting peace, wisdom, and compassion in the face of such ugly violence, messages shared by MLK and RFK. The Kennedy King Memorial Initiative (KKMI), with the support of the City of Indianapolis, Indy Parks, King Park Development Corporation, and other community partners, is commemorating that night with events that recognize the importance of these two leaders, Indianapolis' place in their stories, and how MLK and RFK's messages still resonate today.

Join community leaders and neighbors for an event that remembers MLK and RFK's legacies of peace, their impact on Indianapolis on 4.4.1968, and the community's responsibility to fulfill those legacies by eliminating injustice and division. This will be a commemoration ceremony with local, state, and national civic and faith-based leaders, celebrating the messages of MLK and RFK and their meaning in our world 50 years later.

The ceremony is immediately followed by a Community Reception that will allow friends, neighbors, guests, and visitors to enjoy good food and good company in the newly re-beautified King Park setting, demonstrating the legacies of MLK and RFK: love, compassion, inclusion, and justice.

While this is a free event and open to the public, seating will be limited, so a ticket is required. In addition to seats in tent, there will be additional opportunities to live stream the event around Indianapolis. For additional information, visit: kennedykingindy.org.

Expected guests include (but not limited to):
Governor Eric Holcomb
Mayor Joe Hogsett
Indiana's Congressional Delegates
Representatives from the Indianapolis City-County Council
